Corian® vs. Granite Countertops
Here’s what you need to know about how the two types of countertops compare in terms of maintenance, cost and other important factors!
Chandler, Arizona

Two of the most popular countertop types in Chandler, Arizona are Corian® and Granite. Both are beautiful materials that can help increase the resale value of your home. However, they both have different pros and cons that you need to consider before making your choice.

Corian® countertops are solid-surface countertops made of a combination of minerals and binding agents, such as resin. Solid-slab granite countertops are cut directly from a large stone, and engineered granite is made of a mix of granite and binding materials.

Here’s what you need to know about how the two types of countertops compare in terms of maintenance, cost and other important factors:

Color and Design

Because Corian® countertops are manmade, they come in a wider variety of colors and styles than granite. If you are looking for unusual colors, Corian® may be your best choice.

Corian® can also accommodate more sink styles, including integrated sinks. Corian® can be installed with a coved backsplash, while granite cannot. Corian® is also seamless, which is a strong benefit in a kitchen since food and water can seep into the seams. Skilled installers can minimize the seams in a granite countertop, but they will still be present.

Maintenance

Corian® is slightly more vulnerable to kitchen damages than granite. It will scratch and dent, while granite is most impervious to these damages. However, Corian® refinishing can easily remove any surface scratching and restore the countertops.

On the other hand, granite is also porous and can soak up water. Granite is more likely to stain, and it can harbor bacteria. Granite also has to be sealed to protect it. Corian® is not porous and will not stain or retain water.

Typically, Chandler Corian® repair is much less expensive than granite repair. In most cases, the only way to repair granite is to replace it.

Cost

Corian® and granite are comparable in their cost. However, the price you would pay for a lower-quality granite is about the same as what you would pay for a higher-quality Corian® countertop. You’ll pay much more if you want a higher-quality, solid slab granite countertop.

You’ll also pay much more for repair costs for granite. Therefore, the overall cost of granite can end up being much more than Corian® over the life of the countertop. Corian® is also not as vulnerable to cracking or breaking during installation, so there is less financial risk.
