Corian® Care Tips for Your Gilbert Countertops
With the right care, your Corian® countertops can last for many years, improving the look and value of your home. You will also reduce the likelihood of needing Corian® repair, which will save you money over the years.
Fortunately, one of the many benefits of Corian® countertops is that they require very little maintenance. Here are a few things you need to do to keep your Gilbert countertops looking their best:
Use a Mild Cleaner
Abrasive cleaners can scratch the surface of Corian® countertops. Use a mild cleanser such as warm, soapy water or an ammonia-based cleaner to wipe the countertops clean of dirt and build up. Stay away from window cleaners though, as these can leave behind a build up on the countertop and dull the finish. You can also use a cleaner specially designed for Corian® countertop maintenance.
Make sure you wipe the countertops dry after you clean them. Even leaving water on the counters can cause build up that will dull the finish. Dry your countertops after cleaning them, after preparing food, and after any spills.
Use Diluted Bleach for Stains
Corian® countertops are non-porous, so they are not as vulnerable to stains or bacteria as some other types of countertops. Yet they are not invincible. When liquids leave behind discoloration or you are concerned about bacteria from raw meat or other sources, you can wipe down the countertops with a diluted bleach mixture. Just put a little bleach in a bottle of water and spray down the countertops. Use a soft cloth to wipe them clean, and then dry them.
Be careful not to use too much bleach, and test the mixture on a small part of the countertop first. You don’t want to lighten a darker countertop.
Be Careful during Food Preparation
Corian® is durable, but it can still be scratched, chipped or otherwise damaged. You must be careful when preparing food. Do not put any hot pots or pans directly on the countertop — always use a pot holder or trivet. Do not cut meat or vegetables directly on the countertop — always use a cutting board. Also be careful not to slam down any heavy items, such as pots, pans, or a stack of dishes.
You don’t have to treat your countertops with kid gloves, but you should show caution. Carelessness could easily lead to costly Corian® repair.
